Living Out Their Journey

Pastors Eric and Amanda Young (and sons)

Discovery Church

Tucson, Arizona

“Thank you, AGTrust partners, for making it possible for Discovery Church to go through a process of growth and gain fresh vision!
“The Acts 2 Journey (A2J) allowed our leadership team to grow individually and as a team. We received the guidance and encouragement we needed to help our church be more proactive and relevant in reaching our community for Christ. We are grateful for your generosity!”

Discovery Church is located in an incorporated part of the Tucson metropolitan area, three miles north of Oro Valley (about 45,000 population) and two miles south of Saddlebrooke, a retirement community (10,000). Pastor Eric and his wife, Amanda, have served as pastors of the church since 2015.

With the demographics of this Tucson area ranging from young families to retirees, Discovery is striving to be a multigenerational church that reaches all ages with the good news of God’s love and salvation.

Youth and kids ministries at Discovery Church in Tucson are being strengthened as a result of the new vision that leadership has gained from the Acts 2 Journey process.

“As pastors of a growing church, we rely on lay leaders and part-time leaders to help us reach out to our community,” Pastor Eric says, “and we want those who serve in any area of ministry to grow in their gifting and calling. The Acts 2 Journey was a great opportunity for our leadership to catch the vision of where and how God wants to grow and use Discovery Church to reach people in the area for Christ.”

During the Acts 2 Journey, Pastor Eric and the leadership team developed the church’s mission statement—Discovery Church exists to build a community of believers who can discover God, embrace their life story, and begin living out their journey—and the church’s vision statement—Discover God, Embrace Your Story, Live the Journey.

Discovery Church, pastored by Eric and Amanda Young, is located in a metropolitan area of Tucson, Arizona.

Gaining new vision helped the church to establish core values, strengthen its existing youth and kids ministries, and implement Celebrate Recovery and a counseling ministry.

“This journey together has helped our church be more outward focused and strategic in reaching people of all generations around the Tucson area and helping them to experience the love of God,” Pastor Eric says. “We hope to help those crippled by their past to instead embrace their life story and use it as a testimony for the glory of God.

A multigenerational church, Discovery is seeing individuals of all ages accept Christ and grow in their faith.

“Discovery Church is seeing individuals of all ages accept Christ, have a desire to grow in their faith, and develop compassion to help others. This is a season of numerical and spiritual growth, community outreach, and discipleship, and we are excited to see and experience what God has for us in the future.”

Eric and Amanda Young, ordained Assemblies of God ministers, are graduates of Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas. Eric serves as presbyter of the South Section of the Arizona Ministry Network, one of  66 Assemblies of God districts. Amanda (master's degree in Counseling Psychology) is employed by New Life Counseling, with Discovery Church as one of her office sites. Prior to coming to Discovery Church, the Youngs had served in pastoral and youth ministries for 19 years.

For the past four years, Discovery Church has hosted a Fall Fest with a chili cook-off and car show on the last Sunday in October in place of their church service. Teen Challenge often partners with them in this community outreach to make contacts with the unchurched.
